Is It Time to Redesign Your Website?

If you’ve been thinking about redesigning your website, you might be wondering when or how often you should redesign your website. There are a few telltale signs that are a pretty good indicator that you should embark on a website redesign journey.

In this post, I’ll share the top signs that point to a need for a website redesign so you can start making a website redesign plan.

If you’ve been thinking about redesigning your website, you might be wondering when or how often you should redesign your website. In this post, I’ll share the top signs that will tell you it’s time to start making a website redesign plan.

Outdated Design

If you’ve had your website for a few years, chances are it might have some outdated design elements. Like with any other trends, design trends change and evolve over time so what was once all the rage eventually starts to look outdated.

A good place to start is to take a look at your competitors websites — does yours look stale and outdated compared to theirs?

Next, check how your website looks on a mobile device. If images and text get cut off, that’s a good sign that your website is not mobile-friendly. This is a pretty good sign that your website is in major need of a redesign.

That’s one of the things I love so much about Squarespace. You don’t have to worry about your site looking weird on mobile phones and tablets. Your website will automatically adapt to any screen size.

Limited Features

Does your website have all the necessary features you need for your business? Can you easily book appointments or add opt-in forms to your website? Is it easy to add content or change out images?

If you feel like you’re constantly fighting with your website because it doesn’t do what you need it to do, it might be a good idea to consider a website redesign. This is even more true if you’re using a platform with limited functionality or one that’s difficult to use.

Low Conversion Rates

Another sign of your website needing some attention are low conversion rates. The first place you should check is your analytics. This can be Google Analytics, Squarespace Analytics or your website’s platform analytics if you aren’t using Squarespace.

Check how many visitors and page views you’re getting on average. If you have a lot of visitors but almost no one is inquiring about working with you or signing up for your list, something’s not right.

Usually it boils down to unclear messaging, not enough calls to action or your website isn’t building enough trust. In some cases, it can even be all of the above.

Your Services Or Products Have Changed

It’s not uncommon for a business to completely change their course of action and switch up the business model. But if you forget to update your website, there are several problems that can arise. For one, you’ll waste time answering questions and emails about services and products that longer exist.

Secondly, you’ll also look unprofessional and end up frustrating your visitors who might have been your dream clients.

Lastly, it might also lead to attracting the completely wrong audience to you. If any of the above is true, then you should consider at least updating the key pages on your website to ensure they reflect whatever you’re currently offering.

You’ve Gone Through A Rebrand

A rebrand is not uncommon in the business world. But if you didn’t update your website at the same time, you run the risk of attracting the wrong audience. Not only that but if your brand on social media and your website are completely different, then you run the risk of alienating your followers when they land on your website.

They might wonder if they’re in the right place and proceed with extreme caution or assume they’re in the wrong place and move on with their day.
